You no longer have to rely on subjective judgments or published test results. Now you can accurately measure the key image quality factors by photographing or scanning inexpensive, widely available targets and analyzing the results with Imatest.
Here are some key features of "Imatest":
· measure every aspect of lens performance at different focal lengths and apertures. Lenses vary; quality control is imperfect, even for premium lenses. You can identify substandard lenses quickly;
· compare your measurements with results derived from websites such as imaging-resource.com or dpreview.com;examine the effects of camera and post-processing settings, such as mirror lock, ISO speed, white balance, RAW converters, sharpening, etc.;
· test the quality of your printers, papers, inks, ICC profiles, rendering intents, and working color spaces with Print test. All you need to do is print and scan the test image (preferably on a profiled flatbed scanner). An example is shown on the right;
· compare the performance of different cameras, even if they have different amounts of built-in sharpening.
